Saturday evening I found myself sitting outside my favorite coffee shop in Fredericksburg, sipping on a tall skinny latte… wondering if the rain that had been threatening all day was going to throw a wrench into my shoot with Miss Tessa. After several glances at the sky, I decided she was right, rain or shine, today we would shoot… deep breath, smile, I love my job. Tessa breazed into my life with a shy smile, and a stunning demeanor, right on time (a girl after my own heart). I was so happy we got to shoot together before I left for the west coast. She could not have been more of a joy to work with.

Sometimes, people just fit… yes personality wise, temperament wise,  and on so many various levels. BUT, from day one, Michelle and Steve have fit in my head on a completely visual, and yes somewhat selfish level (teehee good photos make me giddy). That kind of, “yes, this is going to look RIGHT and GOOD thing”, that every photographer has felt at once moment or another. It makes me smile on the inside. So looking forward to shooting their Stafford, VA wedding this fall!

In the few months I’ve been here in Northern Virginia, Nicole of Nicole Benitez Photography has become a close and well loved friend and talk-shop buddy.

I must admit at first glance, I was a little intimidated, Nicole is nothing short of stunning, with her dark brown hair, bright intelligent eyes and tall model like frame. What can I say? Sometimes pretty people can be intimidating! With a huge smile and the quick admission “I’m a hugger”, (followed by a gianormous hug… of course), I got over my slight awkwardness… we became fast friends, bonding over coffee, and a constant stream of information, ideas and inspiration.

Sadly (for me), Nicole is relocating to Southern California shortly, her original home. After 20+ years of service for the Marine Corp, her wonderful hubby Eric is retiring. Luckily, I had the opportunity to shoot some family photos this past weekend around Woodbridge/Stafford. Talk about a family that is full of life! Yes, count again, that is five kiddos this family has been blessed with :)

Happy Easter everyone! Here’s a sneak peek of a fun family shoot I did on Friday. Enjoy!

Oregon Storyboards

February 13, 2010

Today, I was productive, I promise I was! After various business related, not so fun things, I started on a project that is near and dear to my heart… a  color set of mounted storyboards for my dad, who’s 61st birthday is arriving right on time the third of March. An early and very Happy Birthday to you Dad. Thanks to him, I love nature, I love horses, I love water, I love  everything Oregon, and will babble on about my hometown and home state with very little provocation. The storyboards are a series of photos I took last summer at his house and around the valley… in Oregon, of course.

*Preview*

Purchased my ticket and put my order in for the wonderful wedding I am shooting in March in San Diego, CA, I am SO EXCITED!!! Although I love Virginia and DC, I am excited to see the beautiful west Coast again. I am so excitd for 2010 and the great things it is going to bring.

Mmmm Baked Goods

February 8, 2010

Making some lemon bars tonight, a fun twist on the family recipe. Baking has always been a therapeutic family activity for me and us, and the icy snow outside is prompting my urge to nest.

I’ll post pics later when they’re done, wish me luck!!

So folks? Since food is one of my favorite topics (a close runner up after photography and my dogs), what is YOUR favorite recipe?

Say it in Print.

Somewhere near the middle of the long list of things I get from my mother, the love of sending and receiving mail. Okay, okay… so getting mail is slightly more enjoyable than heading to the post office, but I digress. Since I was a child, my very kind and very thoughtful mother, has gone out of her way to browse the card aisle for any and every occasion and milestone in my life. She is the queen of the, just thinking of you card, so proud of you card, and the ever so sappy, so glad you’re my daughter card. At times I questioned why she would lay down the $3.95 for a card, when she could just say it (as she often did and still does) to me in person. Only later, after stumbling upon a stack of greeting cards I had kept over the years, did I really the importance of putting it in writing, and sending thoughtful things in the mail. The love that I felt thumbing through those cards, the sparkly unicorns, the big purple flowers, the short prose of pride and endearment… priceless.

Now that I’m all growed up :) :) :) getting things to promote and market my business is almost as exciting. The feel of a WHCC linen paper between my fingers… **sigh** is so GOOD!

Yes, I was totally doing a puzzle when the package came…

I am getting antsy for wedding season to begin for me this year!! It’s like Christmas for a photographer! I helped one of my lovely brides find the perfect verse for their ceremony recently, and I love it so much I just wanted to share!

The Art Of A Good Marriage

Wilferd Arlan Peterson

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.
A good marriage must be created.
In marriage the little things are the big things.
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is at no time taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.
It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.
It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humour.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

Couldn’t have said it better myself :)
